Hello! Welcome to Rethink Learning and thank you for taking the time to visit our website. As this is the first blog post, I think it fitting that I provide an outline of what we do and a bit of history on how we got here.
What we do
We’re a tutoring service that provides a range of options for students according to their learning needs. We provide face to face small group and individual tutoring and offer a hybrid approach that can be combined with online if students prefer. We also provide online self-paced short courses for HSC and NAPLAN and resources for teachers to use in their classrooms. We focus on English and literacy in high school and will be expanding into Mathematics and Numeracy in 2024.
How did we get here?
I worked in the public education system for 15 years and held a variety of leadership roles including literacy co-ordinator and Head Teacher English. I developed a broad set of skills for developing programs to support student achievement at all levels, including designing a comprehension program that was nominated for the Premier’s Excellence in Education Awards. The difficulty was that I wanted to help every student but the time and resources just weren’t there to do it in the way that I knew would be most effective.
I recognised the best way for me to help the most students was to create an environment that ensured challenge and support were individualised with an effective critical learning framework built from the evidence based practice I had spent years honing and developing.
Rethink Learning comes with a vision of providing as many opportunities for students to succeed as possible. That’s why we’ve set it up to offer students both regular weekly tutoring and online short courses for students just seeking to refresh for particular purposes like NAPLAN and HSC exams.
Our approach ensures students develop strong reading skills through our Read-Think-Rethink model focused on developing students through three stages of reading: active reading, strategic reading and critical reading. These skills are then foundational for our critical thinking and writing approach.
I hope you will join us in our journey to rethink approaches to learning and to guide students to realise their full potential.
