His practical experience is enhanced by a significant commitment to educational research, where he has conducted extensive studies into teaching strategies that enrich literacy and writing skills. By fostering critical thinking skills and introducing science-based study techniques John provides skills to students they can use beyond the classroom.

In junior high school, John’s focus on refining literacy and writing skills is informed by his research and classroom experiences. He applies evidence-based strategies to improve students’ comprehension and expressive abilities, integrating the science of reading to build a solid foundation for academic success.

Liz has been teaching English for 20 years and has experience with a wide range of skills and students. She is great at building relationships and supporting students to achieve their goals. She’s also an excellent editor and makes sure John fixes all his typos!

Year 5- 9: Critically Reading and Critical Writing

Students alternate between reading and writing routines each fortnight with each session following a strict routine that can be reinforced at home. Texts are selected based on student ability and as students build their skills, more challenging texts are introduced.
