Getting started

How do I enrol and register?

Book a free consultation or send us an enquiry, and one of our staff will be in contact shortly to arrange the initial consultation.

How do you accommodate different learning styles and abilities?

Every student undergoes an initial consultation, in which past data and results are reviewed and testing is conducted to create a personalised learning plan that includes reading levels and focus areas for comprehension and writing.

How do you determine which tutor is best for a student's needs?

Each student is assigned a tutor based on their particular learning needs. Our tutors are university educated and qualified and trained in key learning areas. We take great care in recognising student needs and matching them to the personality and skills of the tutor.

How we teach

What is your homework policy?

We provide students with a reading routine to hone their skills in between sessions. It follows the steps of three separate readings of 15 minutes each in order to build student skills through spaced practice. The first read focuses on active reading skills, the second on strategic reading and the third on critical reading. Students complete a worksheet each week and it is marked by our tutors with feedback provided in session.

How do you improve reading and comprehension skills?

We ensure students have a balance of challenge and success by selecting text types aimed at extending their vocabulary and reading ability. Our approach is to develop reading habits that layer active, strategic and critical reading skills for all students. This ensures that as students build up to more challenging texts they develop more sophisticated critical analysis skills.

Sessions and reporting

What if I am not in the Newcastle region, or can't get to your location?

We offer online tutoring for students who are not able to physically attend. Online sessions run just like face-to-face sessions.

Do you provide progress reports?

Reports are provided for students every 5 weeks depending on what their focus area is. An overview of the reading improvement and skills learnt including a student reflection on learning will be provided at this time. We also provide a shared folder of resources and notes so you can keep up to date with what was discussed and covered in each session.

Pricing and policies

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

We require at least one week's notice to reschedule sessions due to school camps, holidays or similar commitments. If your child is sick, please notify your tutor at least 24 hours in advance where possible; last-minute illnesses are still charged, but we offer one makeup session per term. Sessions can also be moved online via Google Meet rather than cancelled.

How long is a session, and what does it involve?

Each one-to-one session is 50 minutes, online or face to face in Wallsend. Current rates for every year level are listed on the pricing page, and are inclusive of GST.

What if we need to stop sessions?

We require at least three weeks' notice in writing to unenrol. This allows us to offer the place to another student on our waiting list.
